Yes, the FDA has found avobenzone to be safe in sunscreen formulations.

At COOLA, we follow a strictly restricted ingredient list that goes beyond industry standards. We exclude over 1000 questionable or harmful ingredients from all of our formulations. As a result, you'll never find ingredients such as parabens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, oxybenzone, and octinoxate.

Regarding avobenzone, recent concerns have been around whether or not the chemical will absorb into the bloodstream and disrupt hormones in our body. We want to provide some answers for you, and refer to this article for digestible information.

Does avobenzone absorb into the bloodstream?
The majority of studies suggest the absorption of the ingredient into the bloodstream is not significant enough to cause any harm at the concentrations approved by the FDA.

Can avobenzone disrupt the hormones in your body?
There is no current evidence to suggest this occurs with avobenzone. Some studies have indicated this effect in other chemical sunscreens. It is unlikely that the amount of sunscreen used over a lifetime would add up to a significant enough dose to disrupt hormones.
